We all know Sydney is suffering due to a lack of housing affordability: so how can we create workable solutions for the future?
It was good to join #NightingaleHousing guru Jeremy McLeod, Troy Daly from the Greater Sydney Commission, Alicia Pozniak from the Government Architects Office, and citymaker Jason Twill for a conversation at Urban Land Institute on Wednesday night.
As Jeremy said, Australia has had 28 years of continuous economic growth as a country: we’re wealthy, but 115,000 of us are homeless, and many more under housing stress. We don’t need another building, we need entirely new models for delivering affordable housing across the housing continuum, at varying levels of need and affordability. It’s not just about making it easier to buy, but having options for renters that provide security and dignity, from co-ops and co-living to build to rent models.
